MEET THE FAMILY.
Founded in 1981, Steel Builders remains a family-owned and operated business — a legacy carried forward across generations.
Steel Builders' story begins with its original founder, David Burbidge. In his teenage years and early twenties, David completed a steel apprenticeship in Port Talbot, Wales. While learning his trade, he started a small business making steel gates and railings for neighbors. His first workshop was an abandoned bakery that had belonged to the father of actor Anthony Hopkins.
David immigrated to the United States in 1963. He went on to establish Reliance Seismic, the company that eventually became Steel Builders, Inc. Over the years, almost everyone in the Burbidge family has spent time working in the business — his wife, children and grandchildren all contributed to its history.
In 2008, David's daughter Gina Moore and her husband Sean Moore purchased the company. Gina began helping at Steel Builders at a young age and worked as its office manager. Sean joined the trade as an apprentice in 2000. Together, they brought decades of steel-industry experience and a commitment to practical problem-solving, workmanship and carrying the company forward.
That family spirit extends beyond the owners. Visitors to the office meet not only Gina and Sean, but also their son, their nephew and a team of longtime employees who have grown into an essential part of the Steel Builders family.
